ticktock Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Good evening, please could someone help with a UPS issue I have. The NMI has lost connectivity, no lights on the network port on the card. I've tried a new cable and plugged into a different switch but no joy. Is there a way to re-boot the NMI without the web interface? I've contacted APC who suggest a reboot of the UPS which is a pain as my production servers are attached. I've checked out the forums, one says to press the up and down buttons on the front panel for 5 seconds but when I do nothing happens. There is a serial cable with a network type cable on the other end which I'll try tomorrow to try and get into the CLI. I'm just a tad worried about running the wrong command and re-booting the UPS itself which wouldn't be good. Thanks in advance.
Steve21 Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Apart from the front option, there's the reset button on the back you can hold to reset the card, but that'll default the NMC options so I guess only a last chance kind of issue As you might need to reset it after a reboot otherwise Steve 1
eddyc Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 One piece of advice I would give is to ensure you are using the APC serial lead and not just any standard serial cable. APC have a unique pin layout. I had an issue with our UPS and went to the server room and plugged a standard serial cable into our UPS, which shut it down. The UPS and the whole of production connected to it. That was an embarrassing day! 1
ticktock Posted May 18, 2022 Author Posted May 18, 2022 I've got the cable thankfully. Would you know the syntax for the card reboot in the CLI.
eddyc Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 I've got the cable thankfully. Would you know the syntax for the card reboot in the CLI. I believe that just typing reboot at the cli should reboot the management card and interface only, and not the UPS itself. eddyc 1
Steve21 Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Despite it being a really stupid phrase, I'm sure last time I did it it is actually "reboot" Just had a look on mine: reboot Access: Super User, Administrator Description: Restart the interface of the NMC. But obviously, would be good to check your NMC version etc as there's 3/4 nowadays Steve 1
