I've been speaking to Backblaze about hosting our offsite backup. As a split-site school I have the advantage of two server rooms in two different postcodes and use Veeam to duplicate everything. Unfortunately that doesn't cut it for our insurance so we need a disaster recovery in place to store around 30TB of VMs somewhere that isn't this school.

Veeam and Backblaze have said that in order to backup to them we need the SOBR feature (only in Enterprise Plus) which is an extra £4000 a year just in software licensing :o

So, open to suggestions!

Has anyone else come to an agreement with another school to backup to each other? Just thinking out loud!

If you're backing up to a NAS you can possibly use the NAS to backup the VMs to a third party like Backblaze or Wasabi.

Can anyone remember my NAS passwords? :D

Hi,

Worth noting it is Enterprise not Enterprise Plus for SOBR. (You mention one in title other in body)

May be worth looking at your licensing and see whether you're still on socket licensing whether it's cost effective for you to move to universal licensing which is all top end licenses.

There's a tipping point where socket makes more/less sense.
