dibekem Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Hello. I'm having problems with the password complexity gpo on a Windows server 2019 Standard. Even though I disabled it it still won't let me create a simple 5 character password. Please see attached pic for the setting that is applied on the dc. At the local pc I can't change the password. I get Unable to update the password. The value provided for the new password does not meet the length , complexity, or history requirements of the domain.
robyholmes Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Check you don't have any fine-grained password policy's.
dibekem Posted February 18, 2022 Author Posted February 18, 2022 Thanks. Its a brand new install so no other policies set yet.
Steve21 Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 How new is new? Like today or just a few days? You haven't change the password minimum age in that setting, so it'd still be set to the default which I think was 1 or 2 days, so if you only built this today and can't change it it might be linked to that too Steve 1
dibekem Posted February 19, 2022 Author Posted February 19, 2022 Thanks. I have just realised what I have done! It is a brand new install so I joined all the computers to the server but did not pull them into any OU. The added the policy to the default policy but I think you have to put the computers into an OU to get any policies. Hence it did not apply the policy! At least that is what I think. Will check on Monday when I'm back there. Thank you.
