Afternoon All,

So after playing with WuFB and Update Compliance based on advice given here I think we have it all working. 90% of the machines have reported in and my 0 day test and 5 day test rings have updated without issues. Waiting now for the rest of the devices on the 30 day.

However - we are reporting that several machines are on out of support Windows 10 versions. I'm unsure, but will WuFB update Windows versions? From 1909 to 21H1/2 for example or does that still have to be a manual process (or PDQ Deploy)?

Many thanks

Hi Gareth,

Off topic but did you use InTune licences for this? I've tried several times to seek clarification from MS but I get a different answer each time....

No you dont need Intune to use update compliance.

There is a section in the update group policies for feature updates. Personally I specify a target feature update version and then WUFB does the rest. At the moment I am pushing out the latest, 21H2.

It should, there's a different time limit for feature updates, but given the last 3 have been less than a typical monthly update, no issues.

Once you've had it going for a while check the failed/stalled etc and see the reasons, then manually fix those. Reasons I've had include: broken updates, lack of disk space, someone setting power mode to eco all the time instead of just when low on battery.

Brilliant - thanks for this. Getting my head around terminology. So Feature Update versions are 1909, 2004, 20H1 etc etc

I have WuFB set up for servers too but on a 30 day cycle. They are 2019 running 1809. Am I right to believe there is no Feature Update further than 1809 - only Quality and Security?

Hopefully now will watch the numbers get smaller and larger on the Update Compliance dashboard as they all update and check in.

Thanks all.

Thanks @mavhc

Happy to say I'm seeing UC reporting our machines are picking up updates properly now. Several called 21H1 and updated (based on the setting you told me yesterday). So hopefully at the end of February I will see where we are at. Going to give it a good month to settle down and then sort out any machines that have not updated.
