Windows 10/11 no longer obeying denied wifi networks list

Previously, when you set a wifi network to be disallowed either by GPO or NETSH, clicking on the entry in the list of networks would give you a message "Your network administrator has blocked you from connecting to this network".

 

I don't know when it changed, but now users can press the Connect button. It disconnects them from their current network, and then acts like it's trying to connect to the disallowed network. It never connects, and leaves the laptop in a disconnected state.

You can see the network icon still has the ❌ over it to indicate it's blocked, but it clearly isn't.

 

I'm seeing this behaviour on Windows 10 and 11, both fully updated. Is anyone else able to replicate this issue?

I assume you have updated your GPO ADMX's with the latest from Microsoft?

I haven't, but my policy files are from September 2021 and it was working in the past.

 

Besides, the same effect is seen if setting it via command line:

 

netsh wlan add filter permission=block ssid="Bad Network" networktype=infrastructure

 

I'm keen to know if anyone else is seeing the same problem, or is it unique to my environment?
