[sims] SIMS report returning records outside the scope of its parameters

I have a simple exclusions report in SIMS that is pulling out:

 

 

• Surname
  
• Legal Forename
  
• SEN Status
  
• for exclusions of each student:
  [*=1]Academic year
  [*=1]Start date
  [*=1]End date
  [*=1]Days
  

 

 

I am running the report for multiple academic years (2017/18 to 2021/22), when the report is run I have seven records which are from academic years pre the parameter selections (2 x 15/16 and 5 x 16/17).

 

The pupils who appear who are outside the parameter selection all have records within the selected years (17/18 to 21/22). I cannot see anything obvious why this is happening and just wondering if anyone has seen anything similar.

Where are you putting the date range/dataset as a filter - if it's against the student (assuming that's the focus of the report) then it's acting as it should. If it's against the exclusion "subreport/subtable", it's not.

 

If your filter is against the exclusions rather than students I'm happy to take a look/try it on our dataset here.

Cheers, ive sorted it now the filter was against the entire report not at the actual exclusions subreport level. Ive put it in the right place and it works now. Edited January 13, 2022 by asteer

One thing I've just thought of worth noting - if you want to show all exclusions in the date/dataset range - you need to make sure you're showing all students, not just the current (which is the SIMS default). Otherwise any leavers (for whatever reason, including PX) and their exclusions won't show. (You then get into an interesting situation with student yeargroups (for leavers) and more generally student characteristics (SEN etc) at time of exclusion - but that's a further topic!)
