Smoothwall line speed

Slightly odd question, but is there anyway of telling what speed an interface connection has on Smoothwall?

 

I've got an old (over 15 years!) connection between the Smoothwall and Router that I'm not convinced is Cat5e, so therefore want to test whether it can pass traffic at 1000mbs or not.

If you go into the smoothwall logs and filter for kernel and unplug and replug the cable it will log there what its negotiated at?

 

or ssh the smoothwall and check it on there? not sure of any other way to get it to display in the web panel

I'd SSH in and run ethtool on the interfaces.

 

ip link show

 

This'll get you your interface names (e.g. ethA, ethB etc.)

 

ethtool ethC

This'll show you the details, for example

Perfect! Thank you. Link speed showing as 1000Mb/s

 

Which is good, but doesn't explain why the network starts to fall over when wireless traffic hits around 150Mb/s... Back to the drawing board!
