Our Lapsafe trolleys (the 30 laptop model) have a number of green lights which stay on even if a laptop is not connected (should go off) or even if a battery-dead laptop is connected in (should go red).

Anyone experienced this & know of any remedies?

Thanks,

Steven

Very odd! Try taking the batteries off and putting them back on again. This helps with charging problems sometimes.

Hi, we have a number of lapsafes in our college, and have had a few where the green lights are on. It has tuned out to be the wire that comes out of the lapsafe and plugs into the laptop. Speaking to the lapsafe engineer who replaced ours its a common thing.

Its a CF19 if i remember correctly, maybe a different number if you don't have Dells.

If i remember right lapsafes come with 3 years warranty.

I seem to remember it happening before but the actual power connector had been damaged - this time all the leads are ok.

Thing is... with us being over in N.Ireland Lapsafe send us the parts via courier and we fit them ourselves as otherwise an engineer will have to be sent across I think :) Suits us fine!

We had a couple where the cable was visibly damaged, but recently we had 3 in 2 different trolleys that showed no signs of damage, maybe try wiggling the connector where it joins the lapsafe, to see if it affects the status of the LED ?

Its a fault with the CL19 power lead on the front of the shelfs, this is used on Dell an HP trolleys, these leads are made from 2 core screen but the problem is there is no proper insulation between the 2nd core and screen apart from a badly fitted rubber sleeve the sleeve eventfully moves and then you get short. This will put the green light on permanently and the components on the charger board become extremely hot and have been known to start smoking.
