Feronicswise to Bromcom migration

Hi all, does anyone have experiance moving from Feronicswise MIS to Bromcom? Seems to be a lack of information about Feronics, its uses a SQL database etc but no real migration route. Are discussing with BC but no real answers at the moment, wondered if anyone had experiance.

Never heard of that MIS but Bromcom works well. We moved from Sims to Bromcom.

 

If its SQL based then I am sure Bromcom can offer the transfer service.

 

If thats not possible, Why not archive the data off and setup Bromcom from scratch? We started a lot of things new so only really transfered the Student details which I'm sure could be inputted in a few days if really needed. We still have Sims archived for historical data.

If they've also never seen the database before, it is quite a lot of work to discover how the data is really structured - they have to play with the UI and watch what code rung against the database, and compare that to what is displayed (where is the business logic? in the app/ui layer, or in the stored queries inside the database, so a nasty mix of both?), before then qrite custom queries to pull and restructure the data for import into their product.

 

If they have seen it before they will have notes and may just be evaluating what will have the best outcome from both of your perspectives before confirming the plan.

 

I'd imaging the absolute worst case is that your new vendor would provide some excel templates from which they can import, and you then have to export the data, clean it and pop it in for them to validate before everybody signs off on it getting imported. With a bit of luck you'd get a couple of passes at this whole process in case, despite everyone's best efforts, things arrive in the new MIS broken. Quite how much bespoke work they will do for you will be a function of the number many migrations they are running right now, and perhaps how much you are prepared to pay.
