Automatically Sync Team Site document library to Windows Explorer.

I am looking to move shared drives into Sharepoint Team sites. As part of this I would want to automate pressing the sync button in the Sharepoint site to make them appear in Windows Explorer.

 

There is the Group Policy "Configure Team Site Libraries To Sync Automatically" - I can't get this working. Even if I could I don't think it will be suitable as it can take up to 8 hours for this to apply. This is a full working day!

 

I was wondering if there are any alternatives please?

Yeah, One Drive assumes 1:1 user:computer usage. Mind you so does everything else about Windows 10. So long term plan is probably move to that.

 

Did you manage to get the extract the correct address using powershell?

We are 98% 1:1 usage here. However, when we issue someone a new device we expect them to be able to use everything straight away and not have to wait at least a full working day.

I think we did yes. But considering the time it takes for it to kick in I kind of gave up!

The automatic sync normally applies in the first 15 minutes of a new login we've found if that helps.

We do this in Intune using "Configure Team Sites Libraries to Sync Automatically". What is the issue when you are trying to use this? I do agree it is a little annoying for onboarding new staff waiting the 8 hours before it syncs, but sometimes it does pop in much quicker than that.

The max 8 hour time is so when you add 1000 new sync users to a share with a million files it doesn't overload MS, so shouldn't be much of a problem to change it.

 

Issue is every computing is probably randomly picking a time in the next 8 hours, not asking MS how busy it is.

You can force the issue thru code. Firstly, manually sync a sharepoint folder through the web UI and take not of the URL and settings, particualry webID,weburl and so on

 

Once you've picked through the URL you get when you manually choose to syncThe the below will make sense, $upn = the o365 account

 

I do both - run code to map it and have it set via intune.

It's just a powershell script to deploy as you see fit. You do need to know the userprincipalname of the onedrive account in use but that should be getable in a few ways via PS

I'm looking into this at the moment also.

I've just added

 

1 powershell -windowstyle hidden -command

2 Start-Sleep -Seconds 90

 

Just so there isn't any interaction with the end user and allows for OneDrive to sign in before running the script as it will fail otherwise. One further thing that puzzled me slightly was the $listId which needs to have %7B and %7D removed from either end. I'm now looking at the best way to apply this via group policy.
