speakercon Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 (edited) Maybe a silly question as SMU is accessed via the GUI, but it is possible in any way to access the storage management utility on a P2000 if both controllers are the AP844B (below) and is not connected to another storage array with a networkable controller? Aprice Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 I don't believe so, it may have some console access though the service port. However often these are just for manufacturer access and don't really let us do anything. I presume you have these direct connected then? 1
speakercon Posted November 10, 2021 Author Posted November 10, 2021 Yes, it has been (not by me) connected directly to a hp proliant via the two sas connectors. It shows as 'D' drive, and looks to be in raid 5 (with 12 drives all which show in disk management), but I'm unable to view any detailed information that I would be able to see in the storage management utility. Maybe it was originally setup when it was connected to another box which has a networkable controller.
Aprice Posted November 11, 2021 Posted November 11, 2021 Not sure entirely on this one, But I think if you plug the SAS ports straight in to a HBA it will just pass all the disks through individually. So what you really have is just a drive shelf presented to the server as JBOD. The limitation being Windows is running RAID, and the drive shelf becomes unmanageable. speakercon Posted November 11, 2021 Author Posted November 11, 2021 Ah okay that makes sence, it's just presented 12 disks to the server and they've created the raid in disk management. It's working fine at the moment, I was more looking into how it was setup incase it goes wrong in the future, mainly disk failure as they are quite old. I guess it would just be a case of replacing the drive and then repairing the raid in disk management.
