Over the weekend I migrated our printers to a new 2019 print server. Originally I had issues getting group policy to deploy the new printers to the clients, but found out they deployed fine if I used V4 drivers.

Problem is that nobody can actually print. If I click print on a client computer (even as admin), I can see the job go to the print server but nothing actually gets printed. The job seems to leave the server as expected. If I do a test print from the print server itself the job do get printed, so it looks like the printer drivers / settings on the print server itself are OK.

Any ideas?

Just noticed that on the client it is using the older driver, even though it lists the newer v4 universal driver in its list of available drivers. If on the client I manually select the V4 driver it still doent print and if i reboot the client it reverts back to the older driver

Just to try and get everyone printing I have re imported the printers onto the older 2012r2 server. Unfortunatly I cant seem to deploy the printers using GPO, so for the moment I will get everyone to manually add the printers to the laptops so at least the staff will be able to print.

Without seeing the print server itself, I can only wish you luck with it. We migrated to server 2019 last month. I deploy printers using GP and it went ok. We have a mixture of V3 and V4 drivers

Thanks. I have just run round and manually added the printer (old server) so most of the staff can now print, which takes the heat off a bit.

Just some quick thoughts:

Have you got both versions of the printer drivers (x86 and x64)?

Is your print management (if you have one) setup correctly?

Just deployed feature update 21H1 onto my test laptop and the printers deployed from the old server.

I'll leave the printers on the old server until I'm not so busy, then have a go from the new server.
