Stylus Recommendations for Promethean ActivPanels

Does anyone have a go-to replacement stylus for touchscreens that they'd recommend?

 

Inevitably, we've lost the pens for a few of our Promethean ActivPanel Nickel boards through classroom moves over the summer, and the best I've found for a replacement is £12.50 each for an original, which feels a bit much for a stick of plastic.

That's not too bad - some replacement styluses are way more. We've got a tub of old Smart pens (bits of plastic with fuzzy bits on the end to avoid scatching the screen) we can hand out if needed, and we've found these work with most touch screens:

They work out about 50p each and can be used on most touch screens - not with a great deal of precision on smaller laptop-size screens, they're okay for circling / highlighting, but for handwriting they're like trying to write with a crayon. They should work better on a larger screen, though.

suggest checking with the vendor what they recommended.... from a BenQ perspective using the fineIR technology the nib size/shape has an impact on writing thickness as well as our dual nib pens the size and shape also control the colour selection. can't speak for other brands but the touch technology has moved on in recent years from a standard stylus. Ta, might risk a fiver on something on a pack like that before throwing away £10+ per unit.

Yes, I have noticed that the new promethean pens are quite a fine pointed nib, which I presume gives you a lot more control and a finer writing line, but which I haven't been able to find in the generic styluses out there. I'm fairly sure there's no smart functionality in this generation of pen though, it's just a plastic pointer.

as for our more basic IR models (can't speak for Promethean) the functionality isn't in the pen, but the recognizing the shape of nip and allocating a function such as colour or participant to it.
