Having not used Moodle I may be pointing you in the wrong direction but to make Moodle use a different port for SSL you'll need to modify your web server config.

 

For Apache you'll need to change the Listen and VirtualHost values from 443 to the other port number. HTH

Sorry. My bad. You need to alter how the $CFG->httpswwwroot is generated in the httpsrequired() function in /lib/moodlelib.php.
