Giving Kids a Laptop at home

I have an old laptop which while no longer any use to me, is running Window 10 and I want to let my kids use it. So I have briefly looked into creating a child account on the laptop, buy my question is more broad than just that. The kids are not going to use it while they are no supervised, but I would like to make sure I have at least the basics in place. The last time I looked at this was a few years ago and it was recommended to use some kind of web filter that all devices would go through so it could be managed better. So can anyone share any recommendations, what you have put in place to make sure the laptop is secure and the kids don't do/see anything they shouldn't (hopefully)

I've used it to force DNS settings on a laptop for my Niece, that way wherever she is I'm pretty sure she can't access anything inappropriate

 

It works great, there isn't any reporting however.

if they log in with a microsoft account, then you get a weekly report on what games/apps they used, websites etc they've been to, and if any were blocked, and if they log into chrome with a google account that will restrict stuff.

 

I know I had confusion when they were being home school when one could get to youtube, the other couldn't. the one using the google account i created couldn't, the other logging into chrome using her google classrooms school account could!

 

their google accounts are linked to mine with google family, i've not really looked into it that much but the box is ticked to block mature sites

 

i've not heard of the above one, but I know opendns can be used for web filtering

Thanks, I've used OpenDNS in the past. I just want to make sure I cover most things before I hand over the laptop.
