Scripts by students

Hi all,

 

Currently having a discussion with our IT teacher about what scripts students should and shouldn't be able to run under a regular student log in. We have always provided a VM for Visual Basic to be taught. I would like them to use this to also run .js, .bat files, and similar. What do others do nowadays? What about the "Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications" for writing macros etc. as part of office?

Python, and also Python, and then some Python.

 

JS can run in the browser of course, so that's nicely sandboxed.

 

Office has mostly switched to JS for scripting too, no point teaching BASIC in 2021.

 

Same with BAT files, Powershell is 14 years old, that's probably older than the students being taught.

 

Unless this is for a History lesson of course.

 

What do the GCSE/A Level exams use? Edexcel switched to only Python in 2020
