I'm not hugely a Microsoft networking guy, and now it's really beginning to show.

Existing condition: Linux with Samba running as Domain Controller. A Windows 2003 box on its own domain with a trust to the other domain is our major file server.

Now I've put together a new server running Windows Server 2008, and I am just terrible at microsoft domains and such. I tried to set it up on its own domain, figuring I could make it work like the old server, but I can't get the trust to work.

Any suggestions?

Version 3.0.20b

I read something about the latest version adding support for 2008, but I set the new server to run at 2003 functional level, or so I thought. Later I realized that there are two settings for that, one for the forest and one for the domain. Perhaps I need to start again, and set up the domain functional level at 2003...

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, that one is the opposite of what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to make the Windows machine join the domain*, not the Linux machine.

* ...or have its own domain + a trust, or something similar...

Nevermind. I managed to get it joined to the domain. Turns out I made a small error the first time I tried, and decided to go in a different direction (separate domain with a trust) and spent too much time on that. Going back to trying to make it join did the job.

Thanks! :)
