360 degree safe - technical or not?

Just been told one of my SLT is going to do the 360 degree safe survey, but just wondering if there is any technical knowledge needed for its completion?

 

At least I can be prepared if I am going to get the usual knock on the door.... 'I know you are busy but... this is extremely urgent...'

Also, is it any good and is it actually worth the 'paper it's written on'?

Not done it myself but a quick look on their website shows there is a technology element so I would imagine (hope?) they ask you to participate or comment.

In fact it says:

Technology - Aimed at: Technicians; network managers and those responsible for data security. Covers: Filtering, monitoring and security to keep all users safe. Defining practices when using technologies and meeting obligations on data protection

We went through this process a few years ago. Fairly straight forward but there will definitely need to be input from IT Support. Part of the process involves creating a e-safety group within the school with pupils and staff and that will need an IT representative and also on the assessment day the assessor will want to have a meeting where they ask about how you secure your systems/filtering/prevent/firewalls etc.

Upon completion you get a nice plaque for reception and a badge to put on your website.

Also did one a few years ago, but as a result of my initiative. It's probably a healthy sign your SLT is driving this, but simply, yes, they'll need your help. Once complete, you will be wise to engage in actions to follow as you'll nee to prioritise carefully. Take it in steps, it's not an all or nothing. Will your SLT be able to increase your budget with actions if required?

TBH this is a good thing. The main reason is that you can justify all those expensive audits, filters, AV, firewalls etc. It is always better to have a non-salesman telling the SLT how it is and how much they should be doing as a minimum.
