discoveranother Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 (edited) Hi all, Not sure if this is the right thread for this but here goes. Have Outlook 2016 set up at home using Virginmedia. I have been around the houses trying to get Outlook 2016 to work with the smtp settings through Virginmedia. Apparently many others have the same issue. I have reset my Virginmedia password so many times. I am able to log into their web portal but email will just not send via Outlook. Keeps popping up to input the password. I contacted them and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about when I mentioned smtp not working via Outlook. The reason I contacted them was because 3 years ago I had the same issue and they did something their end and fixed it. I've disabled my firewall settings in case that was causing the issue but it wasn't. The Virginmedia settings are below for pop3 or Imap but just does not work for smtp. https://www.virginmedia.com/help/virgin-media-mail-update-settings-in-microsoft-outlook Thanks all Edited April 8, 2021 by discoveranother
free780 Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 I just added the IMAP settings to Gmail. I didn't want my personal email tied to an ISP. I've left Virgin now though.
discoveranother Posted April 8, 2021 Author Posted April 8, 2021 I just added the IMAP settings to Gmail. I didn't want my personal email tied to an ISP. I've left Virgin now though. Good idea. I had to add via pop3 as the imap would not work. Is there anyway to export folders from Outlook into Gmail that I already have ? Thanks
Reverend_Dan Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 I have issues some times with VM, I think its either which was the last device to check for email or too many devices checking in a set time period. It only usually happens on my iMac. Just had a check on my phone and i'm using imap.virginmedia.com with ssl and password authentication (full email for username and password for password) Port 993 and smtp.virginmedia.com same authentication port 465. This works with my blueyonder address. On a side note i cant wait for cityfibre to roll out their install in Newcastle to break VMs monopoly our area so I can get Gig for £40 p/m 1
