Lincolnshire schools & colleges - end of emPSN contract notification letter

Your headteacher and/or possibly chair of governors will have had an email this morning from Lincolnshire County Council mentioning that:

 

1. LCC's contract with emPSN ends on 31st October 2022
   
2. From then on, schools will be paying for broadband from their budgets.
   
3. Can schools indicate whether they're interested in a group buy from emPSN orchestrated by LCC or if they're likely to go their own way.
   

 

I understand the need for a binary option for 3, but the real answer will be "it depends".

Lots of local authorities have done this. You'll find nearly all the high schools go their own way, as will primaries who are in MATs and those who have technical support from sources other than the LA.

Agreed, but our MAT broadband bill is £1,600/yr for 4 sites (2x 100/100, 1x 20/100 & 1x80d/27u). It's likely to be a significant multiple of that after the contract ends.

Well that depends on the technology you use to deliver that. EoFTTC shouldn't cost much more than that, but I would certainly think of getting FttP put in if the opportunity allows.
