sippo Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Not sure where to put this but can anyone help/got any ideas? When we ghost a couple of PC's, a few random pc's fall off the network and cannot ping the PDC (also ghost server) but can ping the other servers fine. Do you think is should move ghost onto the data server?
Trapper Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Are you multicasting them all at once, or unicasting each machine separately?
sippo Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Multicasting but have also tried uni casting on occasions to reduce network traffic. Both have the same outcomes.
Geoff Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Are these machines on one switch? perhaps you have a broken one.
sippo Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 Are these machines on one switch? perhaps you have a broken one. Nom they're random pc's around the school. Different PC's everytime. I'm going to move the images of the PDC me thinks. I've been told RIS is much better anyhow.
ricki Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 hi I know that this will sound daft but when do the machines loose track of the pdc when they are a client or when they are ghosting. If its when they are a client you might have to flush the dns on the client machine. I used to have this problem after I ghosted machines with an old ghost image because the servers had moved ip but the ghost image remembered the old settings just an idea. Richard

Do you think is should move ghost onto the data server? It will only make a difference if it is on a different switch. You need a core switch with igmp filtering to stop it sending it (in the worst case) to all the other switches and ports. Ideally if you have all managed switches with igmp filtering then ghost data will only get sent to the ports that ask for it.
