Microsoft 365 vs OVS Office Versions ?

Hi all,

 

I just wondered if anyone moved away from the conventional OVS Volume Licensing Office versions such as 2013, 2016, 2019 to the cloud-based Microsoft 365 Office versions ?

 

We have clients that use the OVS Volume Licensing Office versions that you can just install from a CD for example or push out via GP, but we want to move the over to the cloud-based Microsoft 365 Office versions. Did you have to uninstall the OVS versions then install the cloud-based versions ? What are the real benefits of the cloud-based versions part from storing in the cloud and being able to access from anywhere and cost, is there anything else ? What about pupils for example, they all require an Office 365 email account to access the office cloud-based office applications ?

OVS will also give you the cloud A1 plus accounts. And let you uninstall the click-to-run Office 365 Pro Plus.

 

Students need M365 accounts, doesn't mean they need email though.

 

The O365ProPlus installer options include options to uninstall the old versions. This caused an infinite loop on some laptops here when 2010 failed to uninstall, and rebooted.

 

It defaults to saving to OneDrive.

 

Other advantage is it's always updated.

 

2019 has the same EOL date as 2016, so non 365 versions are dead.
