Users unable to delete *some* files and folders within their My Documents

Hi there,

 

I have a Windows server 2012 with Windows 10 clients.

 

I am finding that some users are not able to delete some files/folders within their My Documents folders.

Has anyone else had this?

 

The error they get is:

You need permission to perform this action.

You require permission from administrators to make changes to this folder

 

I have looked in the Security for the folder and the user in question is not listed in the Groups or Usernames.

 

If I create a new folder in their documents when signed in as them and do the same, they are listed as their username in Security with full control.

It seems only some, older files and folders are having this error for certain users.

Does anyone know why this could be?

Furthermore, if I go on the server and locate the user in question's My Document folder, I can see that they have no permission entry unlike other users who are able to delete things.

Any ideas what could have caused this?

 

Also, I am finding that lots of the individual user folders which should have their %username% as the folder name are just showing "Documents".

The folders showing as documents is a known bug. Its fairly well documented.

Some of the work arounds are removing access to the administrators group, setting the owner correctly and then viewing that in the columns. My preferred way is to set their home drive to include My Documents. This would keep their name in in Staff Home.

 

Could you post a screenshot of the permissions, or a copy and past of icacls?
