Laptop sound tinny, yet works after each driver reinstall

We recently got some staff laptops (HP 450 G7s) and unbeknownst to me, after they are rebooted, the inbuilt sound changes to become "tinny" and barely audible. I can reinstall the sound driver and the sound returns to normal, and will stay that way for the duration the machine is on (can be put to sleep without issue). This isn't a volume issue and the standard options in the properties appear to be the same before and after the driver reinstallation.

It isn't an issue for an external sound device (we use universal docking stations), only using the inbuilt audio. I am unsure why this would be, like there is some setting applying at bootup that overwrites or interferes with the driver to break it. I have never seen this on another other machine so unsure where I need to be looking!
