google meet for open evening

Hi all, we are toying with the idea of setting up google meets for our open evening this term, has anyone done this is it straight forward, any gotchas that you can pass on.

All our students have logons so we will not need to generate unique codes for non domain users as they will sit with parents anyway but I worry that one student could log on early on interrupt another slot particularly if there is over run, any pointers as always

The Quick Access function should allow you to control who enters meetings now.

When you create a Meet in Calendar (or you're the first one in if its in Classroom/Adhoc) then you should have a little blue shield on the white bar at the bottom, next to the Meeting Details.

 

Should be in there. If not, it's still rolling out to you but it shouldn't be too long before it appears. This is just the first step too. It's going to be integrated into Google Calendar, so when you create a meeting in Google Calendar, you can set quick access on or off when you create a calendar entry. At the moment, quick access is on until you enter the meeting.

Thanks for this appreciated but i'm not sure this helps us in this instance as all the children parents that the teacher wants to speak will be invited to the same meeting just at different time slots, so the challenge as I see it is to stop the early joiners or politely kick them off when they join..

Well that's the thing. If you turn off Quick Access, they have to request to join unless they are invited to the calendar.

Or you could create Meeting slots and get people to book into the time slot they want, which will create all your Meets for you.

I wouldn't invite people to the calendar if it's one big Meet, I would just share the link to the Meet with a time for the person to join it.

Are they using the student login? With GfE you need a Google account of some sort to join Google Meets now.

yes we will have individual class teacher meetings with the link shared to students who will log on using their school accounts, so I'm still left the issue of the early joiners
