Delete Hyper V Checkpoint Query

Hi

 

Helping out a school, looking at their VM environment

 

Hyper V host,

 

2.4TB Disk

Hyper V DC VM - 1.2 TB

Hyper V DC VM Checkpoint Created In 2017 - 1.0TB

 

When the checkpoint is deleted i am sure it will need space to merge? This used to be the case in VMWARE, Can't find any clear information requiring Hyper V.. Any ideas or a way round if space is required.
