Server 2019 with SQL 2019 Cluster

Good Morning,

 

I have just setup an SQL Failover Cluster on Server 2019 and that is working fine. I can connect to all the SQL Instances when on the local servers but when trying to establish a connection to any of the instances from a client machine it does not establish.

 

I have turned off the firewall on both servers to test if that was causing an issue and I am still getting the same problem.

 

There is currently the old SQL failover cluster still running on site and from what I can see the servers are setup the same and I can establish remote connections to instances on the old cluster.

 

Any ideas and help would be great

Have you set a static/fixed port for the connection in config, rather than using dynamic?

 

Just wondering if the old one was fixed, but new isn't

So the old one had dynamic ports on all IPs, I have tried static and dynamic on the new cluster and still nothing

I take it running SQLCMD -L on the server shows the server ok?

Have you enabled the TCP/IP protocal in SQL manager?

 

You setting up a SQL Availability group?

So TCP/IP protocol is enabled with dynamic ports. There is no SQL Availability group on the previous cluster so did not set one up on this cluster.

 

Running SQLCMD I get an error saying that it cannot find the server, this is the same on the old cluster as well.

So I was being a slight idiot. Was firewall issue on the client machine. I think I need a holiday!
