Office365 - 2 domains, one on Office and one on GSuite - Gsuite primary

Since joining the MAT, we have moved to a new email domain but still got the old domain in the background on Office365.

 

The old domain on Office365 is @schoolname.co.uk and the new one on Gsuite is @schoolname.mat.uk.

 

@schoolname.co.uk is still receiving emails but forwarding them to @schoolname.mat.uk and has been working great.

 

I have now added @schoolname.mat.uk to our Office365 tenant so our staff can use their new email address to log in to Office365 to access their emails and to access the Office365 services. This was a change in AD and has successfully applied to Office365.

 

Now that i've done this, the forwarder does not work sending emails to @schoolname.mat.uk on Gsuite, instead it reverts it back to Office365. External emails and emails sent on Gsuite to @schoolname.mat.uk all go to Gsuite. It's only Office365 that has the issue.

 

The user accounts have aliases so i think this is where the issue is.

 

Have i got to do mail routing or something of that nature for this to work?

 

The MX records are still pointing to Gsuite and not Office365 - i would have thought this would have worked.

MS 365 has a habit of going "Oh you've added that domain? MINE NOW."

I migrated a school domain over to G Suite from a shared Sharepoint/365 tenancy, and even though all the MX records were set correctly, Office held on and treated our domain as internal, so anyone who was still on the old shared tenancy couldn't contact us.

 

Couldn't you do single sign on between MS 365 and G Suite?

It's only Office365 that has the issue.

setup the smtp connector in office365 to point at google(Step 4) - had this the other day after addding a few 365 accounts any mail to those accounts would not exit 365 to google until i did the above

Set the domain as 'internal relay' from 'authoriative' in the exchange admin section of O365. This will send emails *somewhere* if they don't exist in the O365 directory (the somewhere being google if that's where your MC records point to)

Cheers everyone. Got something working in the end. The way outlined in https://mymicrosoftexchange.wordpress.com/2015/06/21/how-to-configure-mail-flow-coexistence-between-gapps-and-o365-using-internal-relay-domains-and-mail-users/ wouldn't send the test email so i created a mailflow rule instead to use with an external connector.
