Desi_Arsenic Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 I am trying to connect a secondary display to my laptop. But it keeps disconnecting, like per second. My device is Dell Latitude E5440 and the secondary display is a Dell LCD. I am using a VGA cable because the LCD doesn't support HDMI. Please let me know any fix for this... ~Desi_Arsenic
6Foot2 Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 (edited) First things to try (If you haven't already) Update display driver? Swap VGA cable? Change the resolution of the external screen? Does the external screen work normally when connected to another device? (eg: Desktop) Edited July 12, 2020 by 6Foot2 Add sggestions.

Does the external screen work normally when connected to another device? (eg: Desktop) 1. Yea tried that. Couldn't find newer drivers via Device Manager 2. I bought this one new cuz old one had color trouble. (Displayed only yellow) 3. Can't change it if not connected. 4. It works totally fine with an older laptop (Dell Latitude D620). No distortion of any sorts. Could it be some sort of "power available at the port" issue?
Protec Posted July 12, 2020 Posted July 12, 2020 I had this same issue with a TV. The TV was "telling" the computer that it could support 1920 x 1080p for some reason, but it actually couldn't. The TV only stayed on for about 1 second and the only way I could get it to work was to change the resolution very quickly during the brief flash. Does the monitor actually disconnect or does it just showing "out of range" or similar? If the monitor is still being detected, maybe try using resolution hot keys to change the resolution.

It shows no errors. It shows the display for a brief second. Also, changing resolution is not working either.
6Foot2 Posted July 13, 2020 Posted July 13, 2020 Can you get the laptop to connect to a different external display (another monitor, TV via the cable?) to test if there is some new damage to that part of the laptop?
