It is a single entry primary school with Reception to Year 6. The school has Chromebooks for the students but to make things easier, and since they generally use online sites such as Purple Mash and Times Tables Rockstars (where they have individual logins) they have a single class login for each year group. The question is, how do I give the children individual logins? There is no way that a Year 1 or 2 pupil is capable of typing in an email address such as [email protected] What is the best way of giving them individual accounts? Andrew

TwistedHelixis Posted July 9, 2020 Posted July 9, 2020 (edited) You can easily create a ctf from SIMS (if you use that) with all the pupils in a list, then use the ctf template from Google to upload the pupils You can also create a login (on website???) where the domain gets automatically added, so the pupil only needs to enter their name + password in the login box and the @domain.sch.uk will get populated automatically. I believe there is an option in Chromebooks to do this also but I don't have any. I would probably just start with Years 5 & 6, get them logging in as themselves, fix any issues and then add more years. Edited July 9, 2020 by TwistedHelixis

Andrew Are you already a GSuite for Education school using GSuite functionality - do any year groups have school google accounts yet?If not, bulk creation is straight forward via a csv import. Do you also have a Windows network and Active Directory? There are synchronisation options. Why the Friday deadline? Is this for use onsite or at home? Sorry, that's as many questions as answers! One of the reasons I ask is that if on site, I'm sure there is a setting that means you don't need to type in the "@schoolname.county.sch.uk" when on your school network which might help. The QR badges are a great solution. Personally I'd prefer the solution from Clever, but they don't seem to have overcome their GDPR issues to support UK, so Wonde is perhaps the only alternative. With PurpleMash and TT Rockstars, I'm not clear if you have a 'class' account or individual? if class accounts, how do they track individual progress? Also, although less important in primary than secondary, it's not good practice to have generic accounts from a monitoring perspective, GDPR, S/G etc.

I can download all the children's info from SIMS with any issues and upload it to Google Admin. I'll have a look at the setting for in-school use. Since it's for use during shutdown they will be accessing at home. Andrew

The in school setting is somewhere in the Admin console - if you don't find it, let me know and I'll dig a little deeper. Classroom is a great tool, but the teachers will need a some training to use it effectively. With one form entry, you can probably get by manually with some class by class imports. If you don't have a timetable or classes in SIMS, it might be simplest to let the teachers set up their classes and invite the students to the class. If it wasn't on such a tight schedule, you might have been able to make use of the DfE scheme to get a Google partner to help get you up and running to the tune of £1500 (subject to eligibility) - see https://covid19.thekeysupport.com/covid-19/deliver-remote-learning/make-tech-work-you/digital-education-platform-hub/
