Windows 10 - Best Practice - July 2020 (User Profiles)

Hi All,

 

It's been a little while since I rolled out Windows 10 into school and I'm keen to create a new image with the latest Windows 10 build and so I'm asking really what is best practice these days (as from July 2020), I will be using MDT / WDS to deploy, I intend to remove the "crap" from the base image, there was a website that listed what Services / Apps were "safe to remove" to declutter the image, and was updated after each new version of Windows and explained which each service / app did, but I can't remember where it was!

 

I'm also keen to learn how people deal with profiles in Windows 10 these days and what is best practice here, especially when we have multiple users logging in and out of IT Suites around the school, we have always gone down the Mandatory Profile route so that we didn't end up with 1000's of individual users profiles and profiles becoming bloated - too large, corrupted or slow to load, but I believe that this is no longer really supported and lots of things either no longer work or it's incredibly difficult to get them setup these days going down the Mandatory route. It would be great if Microsoft though a little more about ICT Suite / Labs in school type setups where you could opt to have a "machine" profile which meant any user logging into a particular suite of devices would always get the same profile, a bit like the Windows 95 / 98 days!

 

Any advice would be gratefully received before I go ahead with the re-build!

How are you all doing your Windows / Network profiles on Windows 10 these days?

 

What's the best route to go... as mentioned above I've always used Mandatory but I understand that this is no longer supported and lots of things now break...

 

What's the best alternative which will allow simple user profiles - not bloated - standard for all users ideally so we don't have a server full of individual profiles?

We use Local Profiles but with UE-V so some Microsoft settings can roam. Seems to work well but you do need to keep clearing out local profiles (Combination of Group Policy & DelPro2 when it fails)
