Excel - forgot the password

Hi,

 

User in my school forgot the password to a excel document. Is there way to open this document without the password? I tried steps i found on internet wit zip file but that didn't work.

 

I know there are softwares out there that can do it but not sure how safe they are. Is there a chance to open this of should i give up?

Is it an open password? or modify password?

 

The XML/Zip way you mentioned was only pre-2013 I think

Anything is possible given enough time.

 

I used HashCat (and a fast GPU) to bruteforce the password the last time I had a password protected Excel spreadsheet.
