spilt liquid on a laptop

my wee sister spilt orange juice or something on her new laptop. The screen is still visible but its damp and steamy.

 

Any suggestions the best way to dry this out?

 

Would this be something warranty would fix / replace?

It can’t be fixed under warranty but I’m sure your house insurance will cover it. When my mum spilt hers a just pulled it apart and dried it down with a cloth.

A towel and then 24 hours in the airing cupboard should sort it - leave it open so the liquid can evaporate

 

You may find it's a bit sticky and need to take it apart to wipe under the keys afterwards.

I know of several people who got really crappy laptops as insurance replacements for fairly decent machines. They don't realise that a laptop of a given high-end spec from a couple of years ago that is now entry-level spec is still of higher quality than a cheap on-paper equivalent today.

When mine was replaced, again my mum spilling stuff on it they gave me the cash i originally paid for the Laptop. That was around 2 years ago I got a good deal really because the laptop was 18 months old when it happened

Remove battery first, mop up any obvious spillage, remove hard drive if possible and if the keyboard will lift easily do that as well. Then leave well alone in a warm place for at least 24 hours, preferably 48+ and don't be tempted to try turning it on before then.

That is a good deal! I suppose it depends on the insurance company really. Maybe we should all pay more attention to the small print in the policies!

I suppose it depends on what kind of policy we have and if it will push the monthly payments up by making a claim..

 

She spilt it on to lid when it was closed and off. She wiped it off with a towel and then just started using it and didnt tell anyone.

 

Its working fine, a couple of keys are sticky, but there is an obvious damp/wet patch in the screen that cant be doing it any good.

 

Airing cupboard is a good idea. Ill see if i can get it away from her for 24 hrs!

my house insurance didn't do nothing on my laptop!

 

It was because a laptop is classed as a "mobile computer" and i can't prove the damage was done in my house!
