One Outlook Profile vs. Two O365 Accounts on Different Domains?

Hi Folks,

 

Can you have two O365 accounts from two different O365 instances (essentially two completely different O365 "servers") within one Outlook app profile?

 

I remember it wasn't possible a few years back to have two Exchange accounts on different servers under one profile.

 

The objective here is that we have a Headteacher who is now working across two different schools that are on two different O365 systems, and his PA wants to be able to see the calendars under the mailboxes on the two different systems. (No, we can't merge the two systems together. They have to remain separate O365 "servers").

Yes you can. You need to sign in to each you can't use 'Additonal Mailbox' for example to add the second but you can sign in to two seperate Office 365 accounts on Outlook (Desktop & Phone). Plus on any Office program, for example Word allowing you to save to either O365 SharePoint or OneDrive.

I've spotted in the latest version of Outlook that there's a "New" button under where you make account changes, but I don't have a different O365 account in another instance to test with.

Yep you can log into multiple 365 accounts within one profile (Got 5 here!). Just add an account and each mailbox is treated separately, diff. data files etc assuming that's what you want

 

Just go File -> Add account

Note the key bit is different instances of Office 365 e.g. Office 365 for two different organisations. Mutliple mailboxes in the same instance I know for sure works.

Not sure what you really mean by that comment really.

 

Office 365 is office 365, whether or not you log into it with different domains at the same time it's still the same instance?

 

So like if you're logged into 365 with SchoolA and SchoolB at once you mean?

 

*Edit - Or are you actually forcing two instances on purpose? For some reason

I'm not sure of the best way to describe it. With Exchange it was an issue if you wanted to connect the Outlook app to two different Exchange servers under the same profile, it couldn't be done. (You could add multiple mailboxes from the same Exchange server)

 

Reasons for it are in the OP, but essentially we've got two different schools where the Headteacher's PA wants to open up mailboxes from both.

Yep, that's what I said above Got 5 accounts... 5 companies/schools, 1 Outlook profile. Added via Add Accounts. All show up as options for mailboxes/calendars etc. (Note add accounts, not mailboxes)

 

As long as you log in to each one no reason you should have problems, unless you're specifically locking down programs etc. Same with Office 365 (Word/Excel etc), all can be logged in at once, unless you're forcing restrictions to limit who can log into it.

Fingers crossed it works then. I just remember that limitation with Exchange.
