Weird iPhone 6S issue

Hi all,

 

Got someone reporting an issue with an iPhone 6S. I am told that all the audio played sounds like "chipmunks". I guess they mean really high pitched. This happens in all apps. Ive asked them to connect it to bluetooth or a pair of headphones to see if the issue is still there and it is. User is reluctant to do a restore so before I recommend that is there anything I could be missing. Tried a hard reset, Reset all settings and checked the settings for music and everything seems okay.

 

My google-fu is failing me on this one so any help would be massively appreciated.

Years ago, my husband’s Blackberry had problems after it got wine spilled on it and that made everyone sound like a chipmunk when they called him.

 

Do ask if the phone has been dropped in anything or has had something dropped or dripped onto it.

 

I suspect this is a hardware problem caused by abuse in some way.

I think a restore is sadly your next troubleshooting step. That would rule out any hardware issues, especially doing a full restore using iTunes. Make sure the user has a current iCloud backup and knows the details to get it back though!

 

Definitely worth asking about drops/spills as @elsiegee40 says too.

Thanks both, suspect its liquid damage. I have been told it was dropped in water a while ago but they thought it had survived. They now know how to backup their data and passwords to iCloud so that has helped with the hesitance to restore the phone somewhat. Fairly certain its a hardware issue now though.

I suspect it has had contact with liquid more recently than they’re admitting to [emoji3] The chipmunk problem becomes apparent pretty quickly. [emoji6]
