Recently my Samsung UE50NU7400 tv has started playing up when streaming BBC iPlayer / ITV Hub / All4. These apps are the embedded / stock apps that come with the TV. Netflix and Youtube work fine as they should.

The issue is when streaming content to the TV via the ethernet cable, the problematic apps drop out like there is no internet connection and have even taken out the home network. This would usually happen about 1 - 3 mins into the program. Upon testing multiple ethernet leads, different RJ45 sockets, factory resetting the TV the issue still remains.

Using the TVs Wifi connection doesn't cause any issues.

The TV has been rock solid since i bought it in Sept 2018 and only now (in the last week i reckon) has the problem come about.

I have a feeling an Over The Air update has caused this yet SamsungUK on Twitter has been pretty useless asking me to reset the tv, unplug it for 1min, etc.

They are now wanting me to take it to a repair center - my nearest one is in Doncaster - where they will inspect it and possibly repair is as an out of warranty repair as it's now past the 12months standard warranty.

If anyone has a Samsung TV that was purchased around Sept 2018 or later, if possible would you be able to try to stream iPlayer / ITV hub / All4 via the LAN port please and see if you experience any issues.

Someone on Twitter has pipped up and said they too have started experiencing the same issues, so i wonder if it's not just me.

Thanks

Do you have any usb to lan ethernet adaptors laying around to test with ? Not sure how compatible they are though. I have a samsung tv of similar vintage (NU7400) I can test

Just trying now, TV is on old firmware without update so I'll run ITV for a bit then update and see what happens

Annoying thing all these damn sign in for all these streaming services....

Yeah i do actually, will give them a test to see what they do - if anything.

the home plug adaptors haven't made any difference.

I'm testing Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on iPlayer and i've seen the beginning that many times i know it off by heart.

Oh yeah i've had that storage issue since i bough the tv and wish i had reported it sooner as i see a lot of perseverance with Samsung ends up with it being replaced.

Thanks for testing the apps. Might have to keep it on the Wifi rather than LAN.

Yeah ive tried a factory reset - that didnt work. I wonder if changing the quality from best to standard might make a difference within the app??

That didn't work either.

The TV responds to continuous Ping when the apps stop streaming.

That doesn't make a difference either. Changed from 208.67.222.222 to 8.8.8.8 and still does it.

I did think i might have set something on the router such as bandwidth management but checking the router it seems fine. I doubt the MTU will make a difference as it would be having the same issue on the wifi.

However, just thinking about this, my ex did say that this would happen but it never happened to me, i just put it down to an ADSL connection but since she left in May 2019, i've had FTTC installed and bought a DrayTek 2860.

I wonder if the TV has always had a fault?

I guess the only other thing is to try moving the TV next to the router (in the hall) and wire it directly to the router to see what that achieves.

What's odd is why is youtube and netflix working... Unless it's the streaming protocol. Shame you haven't got another streaming box to test with to rule out the tv - not got an xbox or similar ? Edited by caffrey

Good idea.

So it would seem the LAN port is actually faulty with intermittent results.

When refreshing the tests some tests work fine, others take a while to start / finish.

Might have to try unplugging everything from the network so onlybthe tv and router are on the LAN / WLAN

Moved TV to hall to plug in directly to the router and it's giving the same results with nothing else is connected to the router.

How annoying.

It would seem it was just a coincidence that Netflix and Youtube were working fine. youtube has just taken a while to load past the splash screen.

An update.. I had set up VLANs on my router for a neighbour when their net failed.

I re-reset the network settings again on the tv and it picked up the VLAN2 192.168.2.x network and wouldnt pick up the 192.168.1.x network.

Disabled the 192.168.2.x network on the router and the LAN and WLAN on the tv would not get an address automatically so i wonder if there is something more serious wrong with the TV.

Putting in static address enables the TV to connect to the net but the issue still remains with the LAN connection.

Just to confirm, the WLAN on the TV is working fine when streaming.
