HTCPCP Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 Bit stumped, one of our new laptops which was hastily purchased to provide home IT equipment for staff has been giving us a bit of a headache. The user is regularly getting the a BSOD with the error system service exception bindflt.sys - anyone come across this before? Its a fully up to date laptop, and the logs show nothing. Normally would try reimaging the laptop, but for obvious reasons, thats not exactly feasible at the moment. Suggestions welcome
paulkerton Posted April 6, 2020 Posted April 6, 2020 I'm reading online that disabling the Windows Sandbox features can fix it, but Sandboxing also exists for a reason!

HTCPCP Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 did you ever get to the bottom of this? i am having the same problem now. Sorry, nothing. And without having the laptop infront of me, its really hard to find out what exactly is wrong with it.
facboy Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 ah ok thx. mine happens with a specific software combination (running X410, then running Wireguard and trying to open any file dialog). that seems to reproduce it reliably. i suspect either some sort of misconfiguration or some other software is causing issues that show up in bindflt. i had tried 2004 briefly before rolling it back, but i've since done a 'repair' install which didn't fix it. i'm tired of constantly BSOD'ing my main machine, so currently setting up a VM to see if I can reproduce it on that and narrow down the cause.
facboy Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Well I couldn't reproduce it on the VM, but after some kernel debugging I guessed that it was a problem with one of my 'cloud' drives, and it turned out that it was a problem with OneDrive. I unlinked my account (ie logged out of OneDrive), and then relinked (logged back in), and the problem seems to have gone away. I also moved the 'old' OneDrive folder away so that a new one was created. I'd be curious to know if this helps your errant laptop!
facboy Posted May 7, 2020 Posted May 7, 2020 Update: spoke a bit too soon, after more mucking around trying to get the problem to occur again after relinking OneDrive, I did break it. Turning off OneDrive seems to be a reliable fix. 1
HTCPCP Posted May 19, 2020 Author Posted May 19, 2020 Yup, worked for us too. Microsoft - the gift that keeps giving!
