File and Print Sharing broken

Hi

 

We have a stand alone visitor sign in system, which is not joined to the domain. It is running windows 10 1909, it ticks along nicely doing its own thing so I would prefer to leave it as stand alone and not join it to the domain. It has a local printer connected to it which prints out the visitor passes

 

It has a piece of software which is installed on a domain joined computer which allows us to pre add visitors and print the passes

 

File and Print Sharing has been setup and working fine allowing us to print from the domain computer to the local printer. All of a sudden it has stopped. In explorer I was previously able to browse to \\Visitor-sigin and it would list the shares but now I get a "Network Error" message as if I have typed the wrong name (I haven't) it does the same thing if I try to browse via the IP address. I can ping the computer fine and can connect to it using RDP fine

 

I have tried turning the firewall off on the sign in system, The network connection has File and Print sharing ticked, In the sharing options network discovery and file and printer sharing is on, password protected sharing is turned off.

 

 

I can't think of anything else to try, have I missed anything?

there is a gpo flag on newer versions of windows that stop it connecting to "random" smb shares. try changing this one 1 pc

After trying a few other things yesterday evening I worked out that this was an SMB issue

 

In the end I bit the bullet and joined it to the domain. Everything seems to be working so far, fingers crossed it stays like that
