Chromebook Hinge Issues

Just wanted to know if anyone else has had a problem with the 360 hinges on Chromebooks?

 

We have had to send back a number of Chromebooks under warranty because the hinges start mis-aligning and then the Chromebooks don't close properly. We've seen this on the Prowise Proline Chromebooks as well as the Lenovo 300e. I will be purchasing more Chromebooks in the future but may look at avoiding the 360 hinge models if there is an underlying problem with the manufacturing of the hinge. Any feedback gratefully received.

Personally I'd avoid Lenovo - their Chromebooks are not very durable in my experience. We tend to get HP devices which hold up (so x360's) pretty well. Acers have also been OK. However, touch flip devices have more to go wrong and do tend to need more fixing.

we have had 1 Lenovo 300e that came to us and wouldn't shut as the hinges were misaligned. Assuming this was not covered under warranty we took it apart and one of the hinges was sheared. We swapped out the hinges and not had any further issue. Our conclusion was that they had something stopping it closing on one side, and simply forced it shut, shearing the mechanism on one side. We have around 400 of the 300e and only 1 has had the issue. If it was manufacturing I would have thought we would have more of them fail.

Had this exact issue today with a 300e - sheared hinge. @TronXP where did you get your spare part from?

Millgate managed to source them for me, there was quite a lead time. Although an American site, I find this useful for getting part numbers (MPN) for the 300e https://www.chromebookparts.com/category-s/2254.htm
