advanced web stats for apache

We are currently using webalizer to produce the stats pages for our website, but the Head is looking for some more in depth reporting about who is visiting the site. We have a password protected part of the site coming online soon, and he's wanting to get reports on who has logged in and is using this section of the site etc.

 

Is there any packages - even commercial - that will offer more advanced stats ?

Google analytics (Google Analytics) is great for generic stats.

 

How are you doing the password protection? when you say "who" logged you presumable mean user name. You can configure your apache logs to collect this if your using standard .htaccess authentication, see: Apache Week. Gathering Visitor Information: Customising Your Logfiles

 

Then just write a script to parse these into some kind of sensible format.

Im not sure how they are implementing the login part. I will need to find out actually.

Its a pity google bought urchin (thats what analytics uses) as it was the best thing on the go. They have released it but its VERY expensive.
