Hi,

I have just noticed that Onedrive is now backing up documents/pictures/desktop to Onedrive automatically. Is there a way to control this via Group Policy? My students will be back next week, and I want to prevent a mass upload of data.

Yes, there is.. Its not a backup though. There are good articles onlkne about redirecting known folders. Just type that into Google. "Redirect onedrivr known folders group policy"

Thus will move their documents to this location though not back them up. You would need to then consider a backup solution.

Sorry, I don't think I was very clear. I want to prevent any transfer of desktop/documents/pictures to onedrive, is there a way to turn this off with group policy?

Group Policy: Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > OneDrive > Silently move Windows known folders to OneDrive

There's an important note on MS's site about these group policy items:

The OneDrive Group Policy objects work by setting registry keys on the computers in your domain.

  • When you enable or disable a setting, the corresponding registry key is updated on computers in your domain. If you later change the setting back to Not configured, the corresponding registry key is not modified, and the change does not take effect. So after you configure a setting, set it to Enabled or Disabled going forward.

  • The location where registry keys are written has been updated. When you use the latest files, you might delete registry keys that you set previously.
