First Language in SIMS

Its Friday, yay!

 

A silly question from a SIMS newbie, I have been asked to add some additional languages as first languages for students in SIMS.

 

How do I create a new first language?

You don't. First Language is used in the census so you need to use the codes provided by the DFE.

You can only use the DFE provided codes - there used to be a great long list, but some years ago this changed, as census now is really only interested in whether English is the first language or not.

If you wanted to collect and keep that information, you'd probably need to use a UDF - assuming you had a valid GDPR reason for collecting that data.
