Chromebooks Video Editing

Hi all,

 

We have a bunch of Chromebooks that we're currently using in a pilot trial and the teacher wants to use them to film videos and then use basic video editing to create a final movie. It was my intention to use Adobe Spark to do the basic editing but I've run into a problem where the videos that are taken on the Chromebook are in mkv format, which Adobe Spark does not support. I need some way of converting to mp4 format but I'd prefer not to use some random online conversion website if possible. Does anyone know of a decent Chrome extension that can do this locally, or some other way of handling this issue? I'm reluctant to enable Google Play store/Android apps on the Chromebooks due the various issues that this can cause, so this would be a last resort solution.

Are you using the webcam on the Chromebook for recording? If the app you're using doesn't support different codecs then I would just look for another recording app that does what you need to do rather than transcoding.

We use WeVideo for Chromebook video editing:

If you want to do video conversion, you could set up a script that mounted a Google Drive folder and periodically checked it for new video files, running a conversion utility on any that needed coverting.

remember that Chromebooks record in webm format, the mkv is a container for this.

1. Use https://webcamera.io to record the video.

 

2. Download the video onto the Chromebook

 

3. Upload the video into Adobe Spark.
