Why did I need to install 'Google Apps Device Policy' app on my new tablet?

Hi, Just got myself a new Samsung tablet in the Black Sales and setup using my business G Suite account (I am the only user). I use this account for testing before making changes to any school G Suite accounts.

 

During the tablet setup I was asked to install the 'Google Apps Device Policy' app, but I am not sure why.

 

In G suite I have the Mobile policies set to basic, which I thought just worked with Android devices without the need to install any additional software.

 

Any thoughts what setting required GADP app to need installing.
