Fazza Posted November 27, 2019 Posted November 27, 2019 We needed to move our DC from a server that had a hardware issue but the server it was on, was much newer than all of our Hyper-V Hypervisors so for the move to occur we would have to power down the DC which we didnt want to do. As our DPM server happened to be the same make/model of server I installed the Hyper-V Role, rebooted and then successfully transferred across the DC so the faulty hardware could be replaced. We then moved the DC from the DPM server back to its rightfull home. As installing the Hyper-V Role on the DPM server was just a temporary thing, I removed the Hyper-V role as it was no longer required. After rebooting, I tried to open up DPM but just got a load of errors. As the only change that has happened was the removal of the Hyper-V Role, I added the Hyper-V Role to see what would happen and low and behold, DPM then worked! The Hyper-V Role is not required on this server so I need to remove it but by doing so it breaks DPM, have I got to reinstall DPM after removing the Hyper-V Role or is there fix I can perform? Hoping someone here has also had this issue as I can't find a fix via Google etc.
PR-UK Posted November 28, 2019 Posted November 28, 2019 I believe DPM needs Hyper-V installed, just checking my 2019 DPM Server it has Hyper-V installed. From my cloudy memory if it's not installed the DPM Installer will add it during pre-requisites check, it doesn't install any Hyper-V Management Tools though. 1
