Graphics Tablet issues

A student has brought in his graphics tablet to use in his Creative iMedia lessons. We had one a couple of years ago where we just installed the drivers and all was well. This one isn't. If we just plug the tablet in, it works at a very basic level. Windows just uses it as a mouse, but the buttons on the pen don't work. If I install the software/drivers which come with it then it works fully for an admin account, but strangely doesn't work at all for a student account. It even tells you that it isn't plugged in when you run the tablet software. Windows won't use it as a mouse. Latest versions from the website make no difference. It's a "XP-PEN Star G640".

 

Anyone got any suggestions? I assume it's a restriction I have in place somewhere, but what? We're running various group policies and Impero.

They appear to have just released a new driver on Firday (if its the same device) https://www.xp-pen.com/download-55.html

 

I wonder if the driver is going in at a user level and you probably restrict driver install for users? Also is the driver signed?

Yep, Friday's version tried.

 

Could well be. Probably worth me elevating the user, then installing as him, then demoting him again.

The other quirk I have seen (albeit with Windows 7) was if a device was plugged in when the machine booted users had no issues but if they plugged it in when logged in it did not work.
