Chrish5 Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Hi all, I'm having an issue with Chrome not letting students record voice using USB or Standard Mics. I've enabled the 'Enable Audio' GPO setting for Chrome (user and computer) and I've added the VLE address as an automatic Allow URL but it still gives the error; Hardware Error Something is preventing the browser from accessing the webcam/microphone. Really wish it would tell me what that something was, in the address bar there's a little camera icon, if clicked the 'Continue to allow site access to microphone' is selected. Has to be some windows permission somewhere, any suggestions? The users have access to the Audio Devices and can pick and choose their default Mics and edit levels etc.
mavhc Posted November 12, 2019 Posted November 12, 2019 Moodle? The error has a code gumnotreadable, gum seems to be webrtc's Get User Media, eg https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/getusermedia/gum/ that might give you a better error
Chrish5 Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Yes it is on Moodle (although the Google Translate voice input won't work either) I found https://www.onlinemictest.com/ and that's telling me "Microphone not authorized. Please check your media permissions settings." Where?? With the https://webrtc.github.io/samples/src/content/getusermedia/gum/ site the webcam shows fine with no errors Should mention that the Mic works in other software such as Audacity fine. Also tested Windows 10 and it works fine in the same domain with same Group Policy applied.
mavhc Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 The only other stuff I can think of is win 10>settings>privacy>microphone 1
Chrish5 Posted November 13, 2019 Author Posted November 13, 2019 Thanks for trying to help anyway. Anyone else fancy suggesting anything?
PotNoodleTech Posted November 13, 2019 Posted November 13, 2019 If you log on to a google doc - can you dictate into that? If it works in a google doc, it may help troubleshoot.
