Wired ChromeBoxes, 802.1x

Just trying to set up wired 802.1x on ChromeBoxes - never had a problem with 802.1x on ChromeBooks (over WiFi), but this is the first time we've tried it on wired ChromeBoxes. Has anyone got this working?

 

When we set up an ethernet connection with 802.1x on the Google admin console, it never gets synced onto the device. In fact, it seems to completely break the sync process - even things like proxy settings don't get synced to the device when there's an 802.1x ethernet connection configured. Setting up an 802.1x wifi connection on the same device works fine. The temporary solution is to run these devices on wifi, but that's obviously not ideal.
