Senior Field Technical Engineer – Heathrow, Middlesex

up to £45,000 + phone + mileage + laptop

Our client, a leading Education ICT solutions provider require a Senior Technical Engineer to facilitate client visits to support the ongoing running of their school’s network.

 

This is a field-based role and as the Senior Technical Engineer you will take ownership for a group of sites including being the escalation point for all technical issues within the client, before issues hit the Helpdesk.

Your main duties will include:

  • Providing the highest level of technical expertise to all assigned customer networks.
  • Visiting client sites and working through an agreed list of issues or strategic discussions.

  • Identifying areas of growth within the school from a Technical and Engineering front and escalating these to the account manager.

  • Mentoring the Network Manager and Engineers on site and assisting in progressing them onto the next level of Engineer within the company

  • Communicating (verbally and in writing) technical information at an appropriate level, and in a suitable style, having assessed the audience.

Other responsibilities will include:

  • Attending emergency call outs where needed and covering the absence of engineers.
  • Being part of the team that respond to calls on the Helpdesk.
  • Taking ownership of tickets and managing them in a logical and methodical manner.
  • Conducting full and thorough diagnostics with end users to enable ticket resolution.
  • Updating the Technical Services Manager with ongoing tickets, resolution and progress.
  • Escalating calls to engineers with specific knowledge and informing the Technical Services Manager.
  • Checking Disk space, Backups, Event logs, Cluster Shared Volume/Shared Storage for Hypervisors and SNMP Traps on client systems.
  • Being part of our Technical Advisory Group to recommend new systems and ways of implementing standardised systems across our schools.
  • Providing a detailed scope of works and lead engineering projects during school holidays including leading individuals of teams on site and delegating appropriate tasks to ensure projects run on time.
  • Working with the account manager in liaising with the schools to ensure all equipment is correct and that each school recognises you as the face of the project.

As the ideal candidate – you will have:

  • At least 4 years’ experience managing Enterprise level Network infrastructures/a Service Desk.
  • At least 4 years’ experience of project managing high end Microsoft server environment deployments.
  • Experience with Virtualisation (VMWARE or Hyper-V preferred).
  • Experience with Cloud Services is also highly desirable.
  • A professional qualification (Degree / Masters in Computing) or Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)) or demonstrable experience.
  • Other specialist IT specific qualifications i.e. Aruba, Cisco, HP or other Enterprise level software/hardware.
