JRA Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Morning all, We're pretty much set on parting ways with this. It's been falling over daily and despite endless patches from TASC I think it's a dead duck. We can't rely on it and I'm getting endless earache. Any decent, reliable portal alternatives out there to ponder? Thanks everyone.
bald_pig Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 My last school used Insight and had no issues whatsoever... 1
JRA Posted October 11, 2019 Author Posted October 11, 2019 Used it a few years here too. Had nothing but issues since September...
AJWhite1970 Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 Been using and abusing Insight for years here, normally when there is a major problem it's the IIS server that has issues rather than Insight itself. What exactly is crashing? The IIS server, the Insight agent or something else?
Linfit Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 (edited) Not had it here for some years but it always was resource hungry and a bit tempremental. Spent a lot of time fiddling with the IIS server. I would suggest Edulink One as an alternative - we have been live with this since September and its been a real game-changer. The setup is quick at your end, its cloud based so your changeover time would be minimal. Based on what we were paying for Inisght its likely to be at worst cost neutral, but I don't know what the current Insight pricing is like. Edited October 11, 2019 by Linfit
SouthCoastSaint Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 We have moved from Insight to EduLink too. In the last few months we had frequent issues (with registers, attendnance etc) and sadly trying to get a resolution was very difficult and seemed to consist of to-ing and fro-ing of ticket entries and screenshot requests as their default position seemed to be either blame Sims or us as users. Having been a fan when we moved from SLG to them years ago, I can say EduLink has been faster, much more stable - and offers more features too (seating plans for example).
supportman Posted October 21, 2019 Posted October 21, 2019 (edited) Edulink one definitely if you are stuck with Sims. Or just move to an MIS that provides parent access as standard such as Bromcom or iSams. EDIT: TASC Insight used to be amazing but they have basically sat on their hands for the last 5 years and not innovated sadly. They still use ASP pages from memory. JRA Posted October 28, 2019 Author Posted October 28, 2019 Still with INSIGHT. To be fair to TASC they re-wrote some part of it for us (I think we were the only school anywhere getting this issue.) With support like that I think even despite the struggles I'll stick with it and them.

mthomas08 Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 + EduLink Can't praise it enough. Smoothest transition I've ever had. We now have over 1000 parents signed on and half using the app. 2
SouthCoastSaint Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 Very proud of our usage stats with Edulink too.. even without taking the app usage out (free push messages), the texts are much cheaper using their recommended provider.
Linfit Posted November 6, 2019 Posted November 6, 2019 + EduLink Smoothest transition I've ever had. Would agree - very painfree. We have a very high proportion of our pupils using the App and our Text costs are a third of what they were using MyEd. In terms of Bang for your buck and impact on the school its one of the best things we have ever been involved with. Also very responsive. I asked about adding the ablity to specify result set/aspect pairs for the data on the seating plans and they implemented it within four weeks of my asking. Never had that sort of response before from any provider.
